WA’s top photographers named

State winners of Australia’s prestigious Professional Photography Awards have been chosen, and will be announced on 28 July in Perth, marking the opening of an exhibition showcasing work from all entrants.

An embargoed winners list is attached.

Winners have been picked from around 100 established and emerging West Australian professionals who submitted portfolios of work taken during official assignments.

A panel of experts has chosen the best work in six categories representing a wide range of genres and styles, with an overall winner taking out the top state award.

Categories cover wedding, portrait, landscape, illustrative and commercial photography – each of which will be of particular interest to a wide range of groups, from design agencies, through events organisers to the general public.

The top student photographer has also been selected, with the WA Epson Professional Photographer of the Year being chosen from among the category winners.

Photographs by all this year’s entrants will be on display to the public from 31 July to 11 August at Central Park on St George’s Terrace, Perth.

Those looking for new photographic talent won’t be disappointed, thanks to the awards’ strict entry requirements. Previous winners include the likes of Richard Woldendorp, Simon Westlake and John Whitfield King.
