Photo talent on show

Around 100 professional photographers from around Western Australia will have their best work on show from 31 July to 11 August at Central Park on St George’s Terrace, Perth.

The exhibition follows the presentation of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) state awards on Friday 28 July, and reflects the best of WA’s established and emerging photographic talent.

“Bringing entrants’ works under one roof for the 12-day show will not only create a fabulous showcase of the state’s most impressive photographers, but also enable the general public to discover new artists,” said Russell Barton, president of the AIPP WA chapter.

Entrants have to be practising professionals, with submitted work taken from official assignments. Winners are chosen in several categories, presenting a wide range of genres and styles.

Categories cover weddings/portraits, landscape, advertising and illustrative photography – each of which will be of particular interest to a wide range of exhibition guests, from design agencies, through events organisers to the general public.

“Visitors can be sure of experiencing top quality photography right across the exhibited entrants, but especially from the winners in each category,” said Barton.

“Anyone looking for a photographer for a wedding, corporate function or magazine shoot can be sure of finding a fresh approach and a polished product among our winners.”

Previous winners of the awards have invariably gone on to greater success. They include Richard Woldendorp, Simon Westlake and John Whitfield King.
