Adelaide Car Owners Get Eco-Smart
While car owners turn to carbon-offset contributions to counteract the effect of harmful emissions, car washing raises another green issue.
South Australians can now clean and protect their cars without bucket-loads of water or harmful petrochemicals, as new eco-friendly car-cleaning products arrive from the US.
Why car-washing is a green issue
Water management information sources suggest that it takes approximately 200 litres of water to wash an average car with a bucket and hose.
South Australian water restrictions have led to a ban on the use of hoses to clean cars, which now attracts a $315 on-the-spot fine. This leaves car owners the exhausting task of washing their cars with bucket-loads of water.
Yet even this uses up around 40 litres a go, according to the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) of New South Wales.
And it isn’t just the wasted water that threatens our planet. The EPA also states: “The waste water that runs off a car when it is washed contains a range of substances that may pollute the environment.
“If these substances enter the stormwater system, they will eventually find their way into our lakes, rivers, harbours and oceans – wherever the stormwater discharges.â€
A range of waterless car wax products and waterless car detailers have recently entered the marketplace, enabling owners to have their car cleaned without the use of water. But most of these products still contain harmful petrochemicals, adding further damage to our precious planet.
Eco-friendly car-cleaning products – an emerging market
Saving water while protecting the earth from chemical pollutants is the ideal solution, according to Chad Zani – and this is why he bought the Australian rights to SmartWax from the USA, where the products are made.
Mr Zani was looking for a business that was environmentally responsible and also allowed him to provide like-minded individuals and retailers with business opportunities in what is an emerging market in Australia.
In the US, SmartWax had built up a long list of clients over ten years, including major car companies such as Volkswagen, Porsche, Ford, Holden and Lexus.
Yet in Australia, SmartWax research has shown that only 3% of the population have used a waterless car-cleaning product. Those who do try the products find that they are:
- surprisingly easy to use,
- cheaper than going to a car wash, and
- save thousands of litres of water each year.
“Yet there are still very few that contain no harmful petrochemicals and produce a quality finish,†added Rex Delaney, Marketing Director of SmartWax Australia.
“The SmartWax range means car owners can now have a superb finish on their car AND be serious about protecting our planet on all fronts.â€
For these car owners, RAA is now stocking SmartWax products in its metropolitan retail outlets located in Adelaide, Elizabeth, Marion, Mile End, Modbury, Morphett Vale and West Lakes.
