12 months on – our sites are beating our own predictions
When we launched PublicityShip in winter 2006, we naturally applied the same online marketing skills to our own site as we subsequently used for our clients. You could say we were our own guinea-pig!
Our prediction was that reaching page 1 on Google on our top keywords would take around 2 years.
We researched our top keywords and applied them rigorously in our content and search marketing. Within 12 months our site was ranking on Google page 1 globally for our top keyword, and page 1 in Australia for our top 2 keywords.
September marked the 1st anniversary of www.geelen.com.au – our first online marketing site created for a client. And we were delighted to discover that the site had reached page 1 in Australia on all of their top 3 keywords.
This means when the Geelens’ target audience are searching for relevant content online, the keywords they most commonly choose to key into their search engines are the ones that will bring them to the Geelen site. A new way to get the most from your testimonials
The million-dollar marketing questions we list in our new guide are:
Why should I listen to you?
Why should I trust you?
Why should I do anything about it?
All these questions rely heavily on building trust among your prospects and customers. This is where testimonials are invaluable.
We have recently introduced a new testimonial feature on our site, which we will be making available to our online marketing clients. First take a look at our testimonial request page.
You can see our testimonials on the top right of our site. Notice how refreshing the page brings up a new testimonial. And there’s a link for browsers who want to see more.
This is one of many features we build into our clients’ sites, with new ones being added as we research and implement them on our own site.

Get your summer publicity campaign underway
Pre- and post-Christmas are great times to launch your next press release campaigns.
In the run-up to the festive season, the media are looking for a new angle on seasonal stories and your audience are in high spirits. Create messages that have an element of humour or colour, look forward to the holidays as a time to repair and renew, offer tips for fraught families preparing for Christmas.
After Christmas, there are fewer news stories around, and the media needs content – another chance to jump into the breach with a damn good read. Your messages need to have substance, optimism and originality, with ideas for fleshing out a full feature.
For both campaigns, images are an essential ingredient.

Online blogging workshops launched
Julia has been running a series of blogging workshops for clients wanting support with this exciting, yet sometimes challenging, form of business communication. The sessions are proving a huge success – and as one of the participants I can vouch for the value of the content, much of it based on Copyblogger Brian Clark’s advice.
